Governance of The Mountain
We are proud that our doors are open to all and of our transparency in the management of this beautiful mountaintop.
The Mountain Retreat and Learning Center is a not-for-profit membership organization 501(c)(3). Our bylaws grant to members the right and responsibility of ensuring the ongoing welfare of The Mountain through the election of trustees and by approving any changes as needed to the bylaws of the Corporation.

Annual Membership Meeting
An annual membership meeting is held each year during Memorial Day weekend. Members elect a Board of Trustees, which is accountable to the membership of The Mountain and all who love and sustain it. The Trustees select and supervise the Executive Director. The full board meets at least four (4) times annually to conduct the business of the organization.
The Mountain is sustained by the generous financial support and volunteer efforts of its members and friends. Staff is selected and supervised by the Executive Director. They accomplish the day-to-day activities that support our mission by leveraging this member support. The Mountain is an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Alliance of Camp and Conference Centers (UUACCC.org).
The Mountain Endowment Fund is a separate 501(c)(3) organization created to provide for the long-term needs of The Mountain. A separate Board governs the Fund.
The Mountain Needs You! Your Mountain’s Nominating Committee
The Nominating Committee is composed of five elected members and one liaison from the Board of Trustees. Additionally, the immediate Past President of the Board is invited to participate as a non-voting ex-officio member.
The Nominating Committee is structured as an independent committee, operates separately from Board influence, and is elected by Members of The Mountain, as stated in Section 6.2 of the Bylaws.
The Nominating Committee seeks to identify a pool of talented individuals who are connected to The Mountain and want to contribute to its positive evolution. The committee vets all candidates to select those individuals best suited to meet the upcoming needs of the Nominating Committee.
