We strive to create a safe, welcoming environment for all at MountainCamp. We have rules in place to help us promote the physical and emotional safety of the individual and community.
The Big Four

Silence the violence: No violence or threats of violence of any kind will be tolerated.

No schleppin’ a weapon: Possession or use of weapons is not permitted at camp. This includes pocket knives and any object that is being used as a weapon. Fireworks, matches, lighters, and other devices that can be used to start fires are also prohibited.

Ex to the sex: MountainCamp is not an appropriate place to engage in sexual activity, defined as any touching within a bathing suit area or touching with sexual intent

Hugs not drugs: No illegal possession, distribution, or use of nicotine, alcohol, marijuana or other drugs is permitted. All medications, including over the counter and prescription medications, must be given to the Health Coordinator at check-in.

We welcome campers and counselors of all faiths (and no faith!) alike. As a camp with Unitarian Universalist roots, we embrace the following central principles:
The Unitarian Universalist Principles

1st Principle: The inherent worth and dignity of every person

2nd Principle: Justice, equity and compassion in human relations

3rd Principle: Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations

4th Principle: A free and responsible search for truth and meaning

5th Principle: The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large

6th Principle: The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all

7th Principle: Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part

8th Principle: Journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountability dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions

The Mountain is proud to have officially adopted the 8th principle in 2021.
One of the ways we put our principles into practice is using kind and respectful language while at MountainCamp. Words that are intended to hurt or exclude others are not acceptable. Oppressive language, such as racist, transphobic, ableist, or sexist statements or jokes, will not be tolerated. We also ask that you do not swear, as it can make other campers, counselors, and staff uncomfortable.
Covenants
Every cabin at MountainCamp creates a covenant together. A covenant is an agreement about how we are going to treat each other. Creating the covenant promotes reflection and discussion about how to put our values into practice as we live, grow and play together in community. The practical dos and don’ts suggested by campers, such as “ask before starting a pillow fight with someone” or “don’t talk over other people”, often bring up values like inclusion, consent, and respect for each others’ boundaries that are central to MountainCamp. Cabin counselors facilitate the discussion of the covenant. Staff also create a staff covenant together at the beginning of the summer.
